Starring Avalonne Hall.

Salut! I should quickly introduce myself, since I used to go by Avalonne Lou Summers and blogged at the girl from hk, ldn & sf. Two weeks ago, I decided to abandon my old blog and start a new blog avalonne hall.

French fashion and lifestyle have always had an allure that is inexplicable. Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain (2001) by Jean-Pierre Jeunet is the perfect example of an idyllic version of Paris with the whimsical and charming protagonist Amélie Poulain, portrayed by the effervescent Audrey Tautou. This role made her an international star, although the role was originally intended for Emily Watson, I think Audrey did a wonderful job.

When I was first approached by Annie to guest blog for her Franophile series, Coco Chanel came to mind. Yes, I have a bob haircut, so Coco Chanel would have been the obvious choice, but I wanted to pick someone more unexpected and yes, my choice isn't the most original either, but I had almost completely forgotten about Mademoiselle Amélie Poulain. I first saw this movie four years ago and it really resonated with me, but time goes by and you forget about the movies you watched. Recently, I was reminded how wonderful and dreamy this movie was and then I realized I am Amélie Poulain. Well, maybe every girl is Amélie, but after re-watching it, I realized how much I have in common with her. It was a very comforting experience re-watching this movie and remembering all the beautiful imagery.

After the death of her mother, her father's subsequent withdrawal and isolation from other children growing up, her imagination became her best friend. She enjoyed quirky activities and enjoyed the small pleasures in life. I'm glad she has reminded me to just enjoy the small pleasures like dipping your hand in sacks of grain, cracking crème brûlées with a teaspoon and skimming stones. Amélie has taught me to be a fun-loving, goodhearted, kind spirited, imaginative, free, courageous and brave young woman.

Amélie's style is whimsical, feminine, a little grungy with a Parisian flair. Sadly, the one thing we don't share is that Amélie's makeup is very subtle, whereas, I wear a heap of makeup. Amélie makes me want to wear red and green more often. If you haven't seen the movie, you must, because the cinematography and production design are stunning. She lives in a quaint Parisian apartment in Montmartre. Her apartment is furnished with eclectic art work and décor, which suits her personality perfectly. Amélie is definitely iconic in her sense of style, justice and fun.

Without you, today's emotions would be the scurf of yesterday's. - Hipolito, The Writer

I really enjoyed this post! A great one for your series. Avalonne, you are an inspiration as always!

Amelie is one of the most inspiring and wonderful movies I have ever seen. It really reminds of all the small, yet beautiful, things in life. Also, the cinematography is just to die for!

J'adore!

Ouais ouais! I love Avalonne and I love Amélie, so putting the two together makes one seriously inspired post!

Imitation is said to be the sincerest form of flattery, and I can clearly see that from this photo series interspersed with stills from the movie. I can't like this idea enough!

Just the mention of Amelie brings back a lot of memories from my teen age years...when I first watched this movie....it was in French and I barely understood English let alone French.....but that did not stop me from enjoying Amelie's world even a little bit.

Thanks to you Annie for initiating this ingenious series and thanks to Avalonne for coming up with such a befitting post.

BTW Annie, what program is it that you use to edit your photos. The coloring is exactly the way one would expect it yet the photos have a nostalgic vibe about them.

Love

oh, I love Amélie! I wanted to be her so badly when I was in highschool that I cut my bangs super short (which did not work too well) and wore dresses with workboots :) the music from the movie is also amazing!
